"Callings are sometimes questions. They aren't questions you necessarily need to answer outright; they are questions to which you need to respond, expose yourself, and kneel before", says Gregg Levoy, author of Callings. They may come in one or more of the following ways:
A dream that keeps coming back, or what it is the pursues you in your dreams.
A symptom that recurs and is exquisitely metaphoric, such as a pain in the neck from shouldering too much responsibility.
A conversation you overhear in a restaurant that seems as though it was spoken directly to you.
Places in your life where there's friction. As in nature, friction occurs where changes are taking place or trying to.
Song lyrics you can't get out of your head.
Instructions that arise unbidden from the silence of meditation.
What you would preach about if given an hour of "prime time".
Start paying attention. What is calling you may surprise you!
Like the pull of the sun on a flower, which causes the blossom to open and turn toward the light, Spirit is urging you to a greater life.(Click to tweet) It is an inner voice that says, "This is not good enough. I made you for something greater. There is a better way for you to live."
Too many people are pretending to be something they're not – because deep down inside they don't believe they're good enough as they are. Too many people are living in fear of their best ideas, instead of passionately and courageously pursuing them. Unfortunately most people aren't aware of their spirutual heritage or the extraordinary talent they possess. they're living lives that are half-expressed.
Spirit created you to be exactyly who you are and for you to remain true to your self! It fashioned your unique personality and provided your special gift – and it lives as close to you as your next breath. Spirit needs you as much as you need it. You were created as an outlet for its never-ending supply of good. You were made to receive the gifts of life, love, and joy.
Spirit is calling you to live an authentic life – to be true to your talent, and to speak your mind. It is calling you to live honestly and act courageously, to be yourself, and to give your unique gift to life. Your calling is personalized and persistent. It may show up as a reoccurring dream, or a sudden urge to pursue a new career. It may be an inner knowing that a relationship has reached an ending and it's now time for change. However it shows up, it is trapped spritual energy wanting to be released – – – calling on you to set your spirit free.
Gregg Levoy, author of Callings, says that, "Calls are essentially questions. They aren't questions you necessarily need to answer outright; they are questions to which you need to respond, expose yourself, and kneel before."
Part 1 of 2…
Rabbi Harold Kushner tells the following story: A woman sees two children in a playground get into a fight. One of them says, "I hate you! I never want to play with you again!' For two or three minutes they play separately, and then they come back and start playing with each other again. The observer says to a woman sitting next to her. "How do children do that?" And the neighbor says, "Oh, it's easy. They choose happiness over righteousness"
Perhaps there's a valuable lesson to be learned in this story. Choose happiness over righteousness! Even if you're right, it's okay to let it go. In the end you won't remember what was so important that made you choose sides in the first place. All you will remember are the times you loved. And the only thing you'll regret are the times you didn't.
The only pain that tends to haunt us throughout our lives is the pain we feel for not loving. Every time we miss an opportunity to love, something in our heart feels a permanent loss. And since our soul's only assignment on earth is to love and be loved, each time that happens something inside us cries out, "You have forsaken me again!" Something in us knows we've failed to fulfill our Divine purpose.
Get off your high horse and come down to the level we're all on. Everybody makes mistakes. Everybody gets hurt. It's okay to say, "I'm sorry." Commit your life to being happy and forget about being right! Reset your soul's agenda to love again, in spite of all the reasons not to.
Here's what you do:
The next time you find yourself weaving through traffic frustrated and angry, instead of speeding up and pushing your way to the front of the line, get behind someone going slowly. Practice the feeling of NOT having to lead or be the one in front.
When you catch yourself feeling frustrated because you can't control the outcome of some event – – – STOP!, take a breath. Remember it is NOT your job to MAKE anything happen.
Remember that good WANTS to happen. You don't have to force it or try to manipulate it. Spirit WANTS to express itself. Love WANTS to happen! Abundance WANTS to be revealed! Healing WANTS to occur! Life WANTS to work! It's a natural event the WILL take place, if nothing blocks it.
Place the following message on a post-it note somewhere visible to you each morning:
"Good morning (your name here). This is your Higher Power. I won't be needing YOUR help today."
Nothing is wrong with you because you are dissatisfied with your life. Dissatisfaction can be very beneficial to the creative process. It's usually the starting point for something new. Being dissatisfied with an area of your life doesn't necessarily mean you're an unhappy person. I am very happy with my life – – – but there are several areas with which I am dissatisfied.
Someone said the greatest temptation in life is to settle for less than what you really want. I counseled a woman once who told me the monent she was walking down the aisle to get married, she knew she had settled for less than what she wanted in a mate. Predictably, her marriage didn't last long.
Whenever we accept less than what we really want, that nagging voice of truth never seems to shut up! Week after week, month after month, it gets louder and louder until finally it screams in your head: "GET OUT!"
Here are some questions to ask yourself:
* What is your dissatisfaction?
* What area of your life have you accepted less than what you really want?
* What problem keeps repeating itself over and over again?
* What truth do you already know about your life, but keep trying to pretend it isn't real?
Many people sit with their dissatisfaction and quietly hope things will change on their own. What most people don't realize is that their dissatisfaction is really a message to take action, not sit around in misery. We're not supposed to be happy with less! We live in a universe filled with infinite possibilities, so MORE is always available to us.
That's why we grow so dissatisfied when our relationships aren't growing, our jobs aren't rewarding and our income stays the same. Something in us knows we're supposed to be happy, rich and in love!
You will never get yourself to be happy with less than what you really want from life. You were designed by your Creator to dream great dreams and accomplish wonderful things. Spirit is calling you into a life of greatness – but sometimes (for whatever reason) some of us have to go through the dark before we can find the light.
When You're On The Right Path, Spirit Will Wink At You!
"Too often we travel on cruise control, and the events of our lives flick by like white lines on the freeway, their lessons lost on us." ~ Gregg Levoy, Callings
In Hymns to an Unknown God, San Keen instructs us to "enter each day with the expectation that the happenings of the day may contain a clandestine message addressed to you personally. Expect omens, epiphanies, casual belssings, and teachers who unknowingly speak to your condition."
When you're delayed in traffic or stuck in line at the grocery store, look around to see what messages might be there for you. Listen to conversations goin on around you. Watch for signs. Spirit is communicating with you in a thousand different ways every day. We are surrounded by messages from the Divine!
So, pay attention! When you're on the right path, Spirit will "wink" at you and let you know.

An excerpt from Your Soul's Assignment by Chris Michaels
I attended a dog show a few years ago and was stunned at the incredible variety in this one species. There were big, muscular looking animals and small, frail ones. Some of them pranced around like models and others clomped around looking goofy. And, it made me stop and think about the amazing variety in every species on our planet.
It seems to me that either our Creator has an incredible sense of humor, an affection for the ridiculous – – – or just a simple need to express itself in a wide variety of forms. The very fact that we have millions of different life forms in our world speaks volumes. Perhaps the nature of Nature is to keep inventing and arranging new espressions of life – – – none of which are quite alike.
And yet somehow it all seems to work together! The plants release oxygen and humans inhale it. One life form provides sustenance for another. What one species lacks, another has in abundance. The wild fires destroy the forest one season and new growth arises from the ashes in the next. For every death, there is a birth. For every loss, there is a gain, for every defect, an asset. Nature balances herself in perfect precision!
Perhaps we can learn a lesson from nature that will help us understand the challenges we face and why we have to go through them. Perhaps for everthing "bad" that happens, we are compensated with something "good".
Why are you looking for satisfaction in the world? You won’t find it there. What are you trying to get from life? Whatever it is, you won’t get it. Why do you keep wasting your energy?
Make yourself an instrument of the Divine and you will have everything you desire. Become an outlet for Love and your heart will be filled. Open yourself to Joy and you will find the happiness that has escaped you. Everything you have sought from the outside world has been inside you all along.
You were created as an instrument of Spirit. You are a unique player in a universal rhapsody where each one has an assigned place and time. Your true purpose is to be an outlet for the one Original Artist in the universe.
Abandon your search for fulfillment in the outer world. Develop your inner life. Spend time asking, “What good is mine to give?” Say aloud to your Creator: “Use me, God. Let me serve as Your instrument for good.” Remain in a state of receptivity and you will receive an answer, specific to your talent and gifts.
